I am definitely out of the Nirschl/Yorkburner league. But still I am out for d´foundation type characters in tubas. Like Rick, even before him, I went for a York Master. Later I got a Conn 1927 40K 4 valve BBb sousa. For me that instrument is even more rich in fundamentals.

My Besson 981 Eb matches the sound concept of my BBb’s. Only it range is higher.

German type rotaries are fine instruments. I call the elegant, when I try them myself. But a performance on a B&S F tuba, by a still living tuba deity, scared me from that type of instruments. What others perceived as projection and solistic radiation, was pure overblowing in my ears.

So I stand by my love for US type tubas. And their inspiration extended on the better UK models.
