I can highly recommend shipping via Amtrak if at all possible. The have extremely reasonable rates a cheap insurance program, and most important of all, the horn is handled the least out of any other carrier. The last point is most important because it is the handling that damages the horn. Pack the horn well, wrap it in bubble wrap remove the valve springs to keep the valves down. Put thick lubricant on all moving parts except the valves which should just be oiled thourougly. Place the horn in a seperate box from the case if possible with plenty of room for styrofoam peanuts. Make sure that the packing is under a slight amount of pressure to keep the horn from settling. Pack the case well in its own box or if you do use the case for the horn make sure that nothing can move. Avoid "common carriers" if possible, they are very rough on material.
