Chances are good that Mr. Williams approved and facilitated these bass trombone performances because after all these years there has been no tuba recording. As far as a tubist "stepping up to the plate" . . .Does that mean it's up to Chester and others to offer their services or to finance the effort themselves? During John Williams' time with the Pops, he and they had a relationship with two major labels. One of them had the idea to do a John Williams concerto album with a leading violinist, a really famous cellist, and Chester. The suits said no. I still can't believe it. But I can.
