Except for the fact that John Williams heartily approved of both Doug Yeo's performance with the Boston Pops (and I believe changed some parts to make it more bass trombone friendly)and of Charlie Vernon's recording. Charlie called him, and spoke to him about it before recording, and John W. said that he would be very pleased if he recorded it.(BTW, CV recorded the original manuscript version, slightly different than the published version) So, is something really unidiomatic if the composer approves? The sad commentary, I suppose, is that since the 80's, when the piece was written, no tubist has stepped up to the plate and put it on CD.
