It was, just like Getzen's Edwards line of trombones, an attempt to separate their professional model horns from the rest of their instruments, which tend to be beginner to intermediate instruments.
The question I would add to this thread: Could Nick C buy a new one if he wanted? The only mention of tubas I found on the Getzen website was a link to the Meinl Weston site. The site seems comprehensive, but the G-50 doesn't appear. This seems consistent with the rumor I heard months ago that Getzen was scaling back their production of professional line instruments. Anyone know for sure?
