For me, neither of these horns are right. Simply because they sound too much like a CC tuba. When I first got into F playing, I liked the way that the 822's low range was very easy to use. But after playing it for a bit, I found that the sound was too generic, and that I wanted something that may not be as easy to play, but had that special character. For me, it came down to 5 horns: A Meinl Weston 45SLZ, a Meinl Weston 182, a Meinl Weston 45S with gold bras bell, a Cerveny F, and an Alexander. I decided to get the 45S with the gold brass bell, because it was the best all-around. It still has a workable low range, but has that sound that you're looking for. Just my opinion.
