Yet it is in my opinion that those "die-hard marchers" you speak of are brainless, unlearnéd, unmusically oriented persons who should die, hard. Marching band is the pointless subject of teaching kids how to play their instruments incorrectly for the sole benefit of appeasing an ungrateful halftime crowd. How is one supposed to properly intake the needed amount of air to play a solid, decent sounding note, when that person is flying across the field at 148 bpm doing a slide and horns-to-the-box? The torso gets so twisted and squishéd that the correct way to breathe is forgotten, yet a decent sound is still expected (preposterous!). This makes one realize that the practice of marching is equivalent to feces; however, 'tis futile to argue the point. In the end, I just grab my tuba and put a cork in it.
