Any of the shops that deal in large quantities of tubas MUST have master orders in with the manufacturers almost a YEAR in advance. For the more popular models, the master orders have to be in even sooner. In this particular instance with VMI, master orders are needed almost a year and a half in advance AND there is a minimum yearly order quantity so that the shop can keep its discount on that particular model of instrument. When you have a minimum yearly order amount of 25 to 30 units of the same model, you truly do need to blow them out every once in a while!

Of course, the need for minimum order amounts and long lead times for master orders isn't needed with Yamaha and isn't as severe with Miraphone, so I can see Dale's perspective. Since the dealer he sees most doesn't have to go through what the big 4 do, he would have a different perspective entirely.
