Folks,
I asked a friend about this and he suggested I throw it out to Y'all.
I have borrowed a Besson three valve compensating tuba (model 223, I think:serial#329743). I've had the instrument for five years and it suits me fine for the community band I'm in and my playing level. The horn could not be in much worse condition dent and finish wise. It even has a few holes but the local expert (and he truly is according to the symphony players) says the horn is fine... just ugly.
The college I borrowed it from no longer needs it and offered to accept my offer of $850. Am I nuts to buy this horn and dump a few hundred or more into it to be "passable"? I'm not an 'image' guy but people do make comments about my not polishing my horn.

I've only ever played on a few tubas and this is the best I've experienced. I do not
have a budget for a $2,000 tuba.

Your comments are appreciated.

Andy
