What probably happened is you developed a different embouchure for the low register than you had for the high register, and you subconciously found this new embouchure "more comfortable" so your mind dismissed the old one. The trick is to have one embouchure throughout your entire range.

To get a feel for how to do this, start with your open F at the bottom of the staff then play down chromatically, but do not change your embouchure at all.. do the same thing playing up chromatically.

My prediction is that at first you'll find you can only go up or down 2 or 3 half steps before your embouchure collapses.. that's okay! (this is why we practise!) The above excercise will make a good warm up for you.. once you've got it down, try the same thing with long tones, lip slurs, etc. See if a trumpet player in your band has a study book by Max Schlossburg(sorry if I butchured the spelling).. the first 20 pages or so have some GREAT embouchure building excercises. Building a strong embouchure takes a lot of time, patience, and commitment, but it's well worthwhile. Best of luck!
