Your friend, Kevin, must have added a fifth valve to his Willson 4-valve compensating euphonium, because if he simply tapped into the fourth valve slide on a compensating euphonium to service the smaller bell, the air would already be channeled through the compensating "side" of the instrument, and any small bell notes in conjunction with valves would be horribly flat...

...At least that's the "direction of flow" of a 3+1 design. Maybe the 4-in-a-row 2175 has the opposite air flow direction at the 4th valve.
