Mr. Deck had JUST won the job in the winter or maybe spring of 1980, I think. He was a featured clinician at a T.U.B.A. shindig at University of North Texas early that summer and performed excerpts with the Houston Symphony trombones at that function. Mr. William Rose introduced them. It was very loud. (I think that there HAD been a big audition earlier, in 1979 I think, where no one won the job. I could easily be all mixed up, though, as I am in my early 40's and senility is raising her playful head.)

I believe Mr. Floyd Cooley also was a featured clinician at that event and performed a recital on a "stock" Meinl-Weston F tuba, proving that it was HIM, and NOT his Gronitz F tuba (which he had just sold) that made the incredible sound.
