I marched in my first parade today, (I will be a freshman in high school this coming year) and I used a Conn 20K sousaphone. It had been re-laquered, had all the dents removed, and really looked great with the band. It was the BEST sousaphone I have ever played, it spoke well, with a great deep rich tone. Now, before playing this horn, earlier this week I had used a Jupiter brass sousaphone. I tried playing more than one of them (we have 4) and on all of them, I could barely get a sound out of it, I had to blow so hard so get a good tone. It was the poorest quality sousaphone I have ever played, and the valves were noisy and had very poor action. Now, I know I am not crazy, because when I played the 20K, I couldnt tell the difference between that and a tuba. So, can anyone tell me what could the difference have been between the 2 horn brands? Thanks ~Nick
