Although many of you may be aware of this, the 1957 Chicago Symphony of "Pictures at an Exhibition" has been restored a rereleased through RCA Victor/BMG label. This recording features Arnold Jacobs on tuba, which was mentioned in his biography. He also performs a masterful rendition of "Bydlo" on a contrabass tuba. This is my absoloute favorite recording of "Pictures" and it is a classic example of the CSO's golden age with Reiner.
Also, the 1978 Los Angeles Philharmonic recording of Holst's "The Planets" is available through Decca records. If features Roger Bobo and Tommy Johnson on tuba. It has been hailed as the "Chainsaw Massacre" of tuba. It's amazing!! I've never heard anything like it. I found both these recordings at Tower records on the same visit. Lucky me. They are also available through their website. The addresses are as follows:

"Pictures at an Exhibition" -- www.towerrecords.com/product.asp?pfid=1088679
CSO - Fritz Reiner

"The Planets" -- www.towerrecords.com/product.asp?pfid=2334061

These are must have for any orchestral tubist.
Enjoy,
Tracy Bedgood
