Horner is one of the greats, and he has done a bloody million soundtracks, none of them bad or even mediocre. The best of the living soundtrack composers are (in my biased and probably pathetically ignorant opinion) Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, James Horner, Alan Silvestri, Danny Elfman, Elmer Bernsten, Basil Pouledoris, Enno Morricone and John Barry. I think that the best of their music is the best music being produced today, period. I can't say that they are better than the best of the past scorers like Miklos Rosza and Bernard Herrman, but they are at least equals.

Everyone has his favorites, and mine are John Williams' "Star Wars: A New Hope", Goldsmith's "Alien", and above all, Eflman's "Batman".
