Jay, sorry about the delay in responding, but you won't believe what we have been through in since I posted my message. My daughter, Elizabeth, the 14 yr old tuba player was visiting her Grandmother in South Texas. On July 4 she was rushed to the hospital in a profound diabetic ketoacidosis coma (we did not know she was diabetic before this). She was in a coma for 5 days. I was told by 2 specialists that she had only a 30% to 50% of surviving. I can't even begin to express the anguish and helplessness her mother and I felt as we stayed by her bedside until she woke up.

Sitting by her bedside during her coma, I talked and sang to her (tuba excerpts mainly).
have you every tried to softly sing or whisper Jaba the Hut's tuba solo in a crowded Intensive Care Unit hoping no one notices your trilling and flutter tongueing??

The bottom line is that she is going to be OK (despite the fact that we learned she is a
type 1 diabetic. :(

On a more positive note, I am very interestd in talking with you about lessons with you or suggestions for a great teacher in South Miami (I know who you are -- I have been an off and on lurker on Tubanet for several years -- and I have been a Euphie (Besson) player for almost 30 years (I own 2 Bessons -- a Besson shank horn and a bass trombone shank horn (both are incredible!). I would love to talk to you in person, but I don't know your number!

I am using my (almost ex)wife's email address to send this message, so don't just "REPLY." Please respond to oscar.cantu(AT)weil.com or call me at 305 577-3110 (w) or 305 669-3025 (h). -- or please send me your phone number -- I would love to talk with you. My daughter is very talented (and has been playing the tuba since she was 9 or 10) but she need to be exposed to dedicated tuba players (not just her really good trombone playing teacher)(who has been great for her, but is the first to say she needs a serious tuba player as a teacher for her to relate to).

PS: Do we really need an out of town pro for the valve job on her old MW 25? Isn't there a guy in Miami, on like Bird Road that is good enough (I think "Tech" is in the name of the store)?

Thanks again.
