Musician's Earplugs

Hello all,
I am concerned about hearing loss from lots of loud percussion and trombones in rehearsals (not to mention my own occasional blatting) but I'm not too fond of regular earplugs; they tend to make me sound like crap (I know I know, maybe it's not the earplugs but what's between them...). I've heard there are 'Musician's earplugs' for $150 or so that are custom-fitted to one's ear and block out all ranges of sound equally, therefore not sacrificing the sound quality as much. Of course it's impossible to try before you buy because they need to be molded to your individual ear shape, so I thought I'd ask around before I made the investment. So how bout it? Have any of you heard of these musician's earplugs? Do you use them? Are they worth the money? etc. etc..
Thanks,

Ted
