I have noticed that the 5-valve versions of my horns sound darker and seem to have better projection as well. Perhaps it is a basic weight issue that gives damping to vibration within the instrument. The 4-valves have a more lively, lighter singing quality. Thanks for you observations. I'll have to start keeping records of instrumnet weight now.
