Graham, since I'm nothing more than an amateur, I won't vouch for my own interpretation, but I usually play that run (when I can at all) with the tied notes long and everything else short, essentially creating 4 groupings. I'm free to do this, knowing I'll never perform it ;-)

I agree with Aaron. There's always more than one interpretation on how to play a piece. Remember how Dr. Satterwhite conducted "America the Beautiful"? He told us he'd never do it the same way twice. Spontaniety and variety is what makes music exciting.
