Yes, it IS stealing when you download bootleg recordings off of any Internet sharing site like Kazaa. That's why there's currently a national lawsuit with these sites about what may be millions of dollars of royalties owed to the musicians and recording companies that produced these recordings. Just because you can do a thing, doesn't mean you should. It certainly doesn't make it right either.
I agree with other posters that the Fletcher recording of the VW is really great. Despite the technical flaws, I really like the style of the Jacobs recording. For Hindemith, I prefer the Torchinsky recording. The Bobo recording is way too fast for my tastes. I've been curious to hear the Baadsvik recording but never actually ordered it. I imagine he does a pretty great job with the piece, based on what I heard of his playing at the last ITEC.
