6 hours of quality practice a day is good, but I would say average. I'm a tuba performance major and during the school year I get in 7 to usually 8 hours of time spent in the practice room, this is not counting ensembles etc., anyway, during the summer months I try to get in 10 to 12 hours in daily, since the scholastic pressure is off and i have more free time, sometimes it means not going to bed until 2 or 3 a.m., but that's what it takes.
