It is much easier to do if you sing above the played pitch. I do not even know if it is possible to do the other way around which probably explains why the trumpet players could not do it. It is a bit easier on tuba than on trombone for me because I do not have to sing as high. If you sing really in tune open fifths the third will sound sympathetically. Also if you sing a 10th the fifth will sound. It is really far out stuff, especailly when you start singing a playing in parallel motion or contrary motion. Getting into 7ths and 9ths also makes for some far out difference tones. ken k
