First of all, check the archives of this BBS as this subject has come up before. Second, you can control the amount of time you have for classes other than your major by extending the amont of time it takes to finish your degree. Why not do the degree in 5 years instead of 4? The rules were such when I went to college that you had 4.5 years to finish your degree and need based financial aid didn't stop until after the first semester of the fifth year. But those extra credits spread out over 5 years allow you to take whatever courses you want over and above your degree. Also, if you still decide to pursue a performance degree with a vengeance, the extra time will serve you well in the practice room. You can also add some leeway to your schedule by taking whatever required courses you can during the summers on your own nickel. That also frees up more time during the regular school year for whatever classes/activities you want. Good luck!
