As far as organs go, organists (and I know this because I used to play organ in church) have always complained about electronic linkages as they make the instrument very remote. It is a bit like playing an old electric piano without weighted keys when you are used to a normal acoustic piano. You feel comparitively out of touch with the sound. Like you say, if you want to make a really big organ, electromechanical linkages are much easier to make, but with modern construction techniques large mechanical organs are viable and (as you say) preferred. As far as a tuba version goes I would like to try it out, but would not want to lose that same sense of playing the music, not just pushing buttons, as well as the effects you can get by blowing through a half open valve and using a bit of lip (ie I would NOT want a binary system of movement).
