Just out of curiosity. . .where are you playing it? And since some really great recordings have been made with tuba players on E flat or F tubas, you could probably to just as well. Unfortunately, my favorite Walton 1st, Previn/LSO on RCA with Alan Jenkins on a modified Barlow model Boosey F, is out of print. Aside from playing it very well, the orchestra was well miked. The tuba was not absorbed in a wash of "big sounding bass" as has so often happened. As an alternative, you might try the Naxos with David Daniels conducting the English Northern Philharmonia. You should try to find the Previn/RCA in a library though.
