Wow, your brain sure works faster than mine. When I bought an F tuba, it took several months before I was at all comfortable on it, and about a year before I felt like I had the same facility as I do on the BBb. Even after 15 years of playing both, I'm better in some keys on F and others on BBb, just because of the keys I'm used to playing in the groups for which I use them.
I do agree that one should not be afraid to learn new fingerings. But the poster has $3000 to spend on a tuba that his wife insists must look good. I think he'll do much better with a BBb than with other choices, and that was the basis for my advice.
