The Yamaha version of the 4 valve compensating Eb tuba is a spectacular instrument. It is my opinion that intonation and sound is superior to the Besson. The Besson may have more projection in the band, however.
If you are interested, I have an older Yamaha YEB 321S in excellent condition for sale for only $1900. This is a very "user friendly" tuba. I played this instrument in my brass band for several years until I got the new compensating model.
