You are correct that a dij has little back pressure, but most players use a very tight embouchure in playing it, supplying their own back pressure. You don't use the same relaxed embouchure that you would to get a gorgeous sound on tuba. I'm not saying it's impossible to circular breathe on tuba....just harder than on dij.
Mary Ann, who uses only tongue motion to change the timbre on the dij, not her embouchure.
