Music, sports and debate are the only places where students have perfection as the goal. The rest of the time their goal is getting by.

That aside, we often get polarized in these discussions. There can be a "happy" medium. When I went to college I met many other poeple who hadn't been out of the country, and some who hadn't been out of the state! If a 350 mile radius is good for you, great. But, why not have the attitude that if it can be done, and there is some value to it, why not do it? On the other side, if it can't be done or there is some hardships that are just too much, then don't do it. Blanket policies and Zero-tolerance policies are zero-THOUGHT policies. Individual circumstances need individual treatment.
