Rick, with a four-valve BBb tuba, how do you finger the B below the staff? Very commonly, both 123 and 24 are sharp (or if not, other notes are not well in tune). Do you lip down (like I did when I played a three-valve BBb sousa) or pull a slide?

On the CC tuba I'm playing now, my most frequent use of the fifth valve is to get a good Db/C# (fingered 235), which is certainly common in band music. Sometimes, I think about getting a big BBb horn. I'm used to five valves, but don't know if its advantages are worth the presumed extra stuffiness and weight. Why a big BBb instead of a big CC? If you're going to get a big tuba, you may as well make it big in every way! Anyway, as you have pointed out, a BBb is usually cheaper than a CC for the same amount of tuba.
