The best thing for me is to set up the minidisc recorder and just go at it. I find that when I do that I will be stuck in the practice room for hours. There is always room for improvement and I never run out of things that I feel I can fix. Ultimately, you finally just reduce all of the mistakes down to very minor details. Also, playing for a recorder is the closest you can come to playing for a committee when there is no one around to listen.
