I looked into having them imported at one time - the problem was that the cost was prohibitive ('way more than a MW 2165 almost to Yorkburunner in price). The problem you will find with the Alexander tubas is: when Mr. Alexander began making tubas he had 6 apprentices. So, you get one good horn and 6 bad ones. There is a player frfom Australia I met who had an exceptional instrument. It was beautifully in tune and had a great sound color (which is the big difference with the Alexanders - the sound is almost all fundamental pitch so it carries bett in a large ensemble).
As to good recordings - anything with Cleveland. Ron Bishop, I believe, still uses his Alex for almost everything.
Last I looked - Dillon had one of Sam Pilafian's old Alexanders for $5k. Probably a very good horn at an excellent price.

Just my $0.02
