I think Canadian Brass hardly sell brass quintet short--much of the repertoire and the interest in smaller ensembles was spawned by their efforts. They are true showman, who can one minute play a serious classical piece and keep the audience's attention, and the next be dancing around on the stage doing "Hornsmoke" or a spoof of "Carmen," as I have seen them do. There is nothing wrong with jazzy stuff, and just because BQ is a "classical" group, doesn't mean we have to be stuffed shirts and go out with nothing but pure brass quintet literature. One of the most fun parts of it is being able to fool around more than we really can in band or orchestra, because you can do so many more types of music, and pull it off.
