Are you sure, Chuck? The orchestra that is conducted by the work's arranger, Robert Russell Bennett, is not even named on my 2-LP set of the 3 Suites from Victory at Sea (RCA VCS-7064).

RCA began issuing the Living Stereo series of LPs around 1958, although they were one of the first companies to release commercial stereo recordings on reel-to-reel as early as 1954 (e.g. Reiner/Chicago Symphony playing Richard Strauss). But the NBC Symphony's commerical recordings were all in mono; but the time of the advent of commercial stereo recordings, Toscanini was gone and what was left of the NBC Symphony was referred to as the "Symphony of the Air." Besides, when did Torchinsky join Philadelphia?

Was the RCA studio (err, pick-up) orchestra on these recordings of "Victory at Sea" from NY or L.A., and who really WAS the tubist?
