The trombone ensemble at Berry College (the Berry Bones) used a Mirafone Contrabass trombone in its early years, but I don't know if it's still in use. It was a lot of fun to play (I only fiddled with it a few times; the regular player was a tubaist from the concert band), and its tone was great, but it was an intonation nightmare. Even precise slide positions would give widely varying pitches, and the player had to have an iron lip to control it properly.
