Hi all,
I searched the archives before I posted this, hoping to avoid a re-run, but I couldn't quite find exactly what I was looking for.
I would like to perform a piece for an Easter gig that requires a mute. Since it is a solo, I will be playing on my Besson (983) e-flat. So here is my question. I have a large H&B aluminum mute that I received when I bought my HB 21... Now, this mute seems to fit my Besson, but I know there are 2 sizes of mute. My problem comes in that I do not have enough experience with muted tuba sound or tuba mutes in general to know if this truly works effectively. It occurs to me that checking intonation is one thing, but I guess I am not sure if the sound I could produce is "desirable." I guess listening to recordings would tell me what a good muted tuba should sound like, but by the time I found good recordings, my time to buy a mute would be used up!
So, to make a long story short, does anyone know which tubas the large HB aluminum mute fits effectively? Thought I would ask before dishing out another $180 if not necessary. (Although I'm sure it will be when I acquire an F!)
Thanks very much for any help, and my apologies if I have overstated something that has been covered.
