I have a large Yamaha F tuba. I don't know how the bell size compares to your Eb, but it has a large bell for an F tuba. My large H&B mute doesn't sound that great with my Yamaha. The university from which I graduated owns a small H&B mute that I am fortunate enough to borrow when I need to mute my F and it sounds a lot better. I would try looking around in your area and see if there is one you can borrow.
For a solo, have you considered one of the wooden-ended mutes that you could pick up for around $75? Also, would you use a small H&B mute often enough to justify the major purchase that another H&B mute would be?
