Even if I am not German I know of the "Reinheitsgebot".

It says that there only may be a very few essential ingredients in beer: barley, hops, yeast, and water.

That law actually has meant a renaissance in brewing even in my country. When the barley has a too high content of proteines, the final product gets unclear and looks cloudy. That lead to a use of corn as a partial substitute.

That substitution got so unpopular, that the main breweries went back to the original formula. Maybe still with the addition some anti-oxidants. The latters are not allowed according the "Reinheitsgebot".

If you have tasted the products of discount "chemified" breweries, you will know the value of the "Reinheitsgebot". And were it not for the alcoholic contents, the US beer, that I have tried, would be relegated to the childrens' fluid-candy shelves.
