Tubby the violins

I am currently the technical director with my local symphony, which is more like a glorified stage managing gig. We just finished our last children's concert for the season last night. On the program was yes you guessed it Tubby the Tuba. Now as horrible as this may sound, being a tuba player, I was vaguely familiar with this piece. But after listening to it in rehearsal and performance I can honestly say I don't care for the piece as a tuba feature. Everytime the tuba gets going the violins interupt. There is one little passage that shows some dexterity and of course it is a bit rangey. Yes those high f's are very rangey. But it seems that Tubby doesn't really speak for himself too much during the piece and as one of the main tuba showpieces that children listen to I think it leaves a lot to be desired as a tuba solo.
Well just my opinion
