Kenneth- I had a similar problem with a YEB-381 I once owned. My solution was to buy another tuning slide from Yamaha and have my repair guy fit it with longer tubes. I ended up having a "summer" and "winter" tuning slides. I think this approach would afftect your sound and response less than altering the leadpipe area. Be sure and order the water (spit) valve, too. It's not included with the slide.
