Yes - a completely different "summer slide" is just the right thing to do.

But...about that water key. In my experience, very little water collects in the main tuning slide, and when it does I *still* need to pull the slide to get it all. I occasionally open the water key, but mostly as a reflex. So, it's not entirely clear to me that it would be necessary on the replacement slide.

One final, tiny issue. I'll have to check to be sure, but I remember discovering early on that at least ONE of the tuning slides needs to be pushed in all the way in order to close the molded Yamaha case. This *might* be an issue...gotta check.
