* Most 38K's had a 24" bell diameter, whereas only a few of them had a 26" bell diameter, like the 20K.

* The King has been redesigned around the neckpipe receiver with an arched brace for more stability and lower cost. The redesign caused the main tuning slide to have a narrower crook and plays slightly stuffier, and causes some problems including stuck main slide, waterkey bending mishaps, and waterkey drainage. Also, a brace from the 5th to 2nd branch has been redesigned for economy.

* Both the King and the Conn are made of significantly thinner brass than the old instruments. All one has to do is weigh comparable instruments to determine this.

* Current workmanship, though adequate, is not up the the standards of the 1960's and earlier instruments.
