Well, Rick, if your intonation skills are as bad as you imply....then you should buy that CD called Tune-Up, by Steve Colley. It teaches intonation via beats, and _anyone_ can get it. Easily. Really. Especially someone with an IQ and an engineering degree.
The real difficulty is in trying to play the 3rd in a chord when the 5th is being played by someone else out-of-tune with the fundamental. Or vice versa. In those cases, intonation will not happen, and your head will explode if you try to make it happen.
