This is further reinforced by the market. Those players who say they prefer unlacquered instruments never seem to be the ones in the market when one is offered for sale, and the dull, bare-brass instruments never seem to command the price of the shiny, lacquered instruments.

The only exceptions are those rare, valuable instruments that probably were in bare brass to begin with (i.e. Alex tubas). I can't think of any example of a euphonium that would sell for nearly as much in bare brass.
