I owned an unlacquered euphonium, and I loved it. The tone was brighter, it was easy
to keep up, didn't tarnish, and sold for a lot more than I thought it would when I put
it up for sale. Of course, you can't generalize from my experience: the horn was gold
brass, with a brushed finish, and looked as good or better after 30 years than when new,
due to careful handling, etc. But, if anything I'm agreeing with you. It was an Alex 151.
