A smaller mouthpiece may not be what you need, but rather a mouthpiece that is designed for a higher centering pitch. Such a mouthpiece may actually be larger.

I brought the pitch of my Besson up a good 15 cents by switching to a Steven Mean mouthpiece. I have both the SM-3 and the SM-4. The 3 is a toilet bowl and feels good to this tuba player, but it still plays a higher pitch than the trombone mouthpieces I had tried.

If you look at it and how it sits in the receiver, you'll also notice that the Steven Mean mouthpieces have a shorter wheelbase than most trombone mouthpieces.
