Seems like a slow day so i'll throw this out for discussion.Seems like there is an amount of disdain for slide pulling among tubists.I for one believe that the sound, intonation, and satisfaction of the feel of any note is better if the length of slide is as close to the length needed to produce the frequency attempted as possible,no matter how that length is achieved.Whether it be alternate fingerings or on-the-fly slide pulling,it is worth it to me(an amateur enthusiast who plays a fair amount),to have that slide length close to correct.Yes,you can lip significant number of cents in either direction, but i find often this leads to missed attacks, uncentered sound, and just bad vibes(in the vernacular as well as scientifically).I ,for one, would rather pull the slides and have the feeling that all is right with the acoustics of the horn.Interested in what other people's takes are on the subject...
