I can only circular breathe when "playing" (I'm not an oboist by any means) a much more resistant instrument - the oboe.

At the great risk of sounding like "sour grapes", I've found all utilizations of circular breathing that I've witnessed in tuba and other low brass performances - whether live or on recordings (Empire Brass musicians, Roger Bobo, et al) - to be very distracting. I've never heard it done without very loud "sniffing", and that loud noise has consistantly caused me to momentarily forget about the music and the performance, and to dwell on the distracting noise and the circular breathing event.
