Well, I only had a couple non premiere festivals on my resume when I sent it. I've never had a full time playing gig for more than a summer, and I got in.
I find it hard to believe that they are interested in hearing me because I 'm working on a doctorate.
Maybe it's the schools? probably not. I have lots of orchestras and bands on my resume. Does your resume reflect a depth and variety of work experience? They want someone to whom professional playing, preparation and flexability would not be a new venture. Maybe, if you are in the experienced catergory, you could look into more clearly articulating the work you've done.
I don't know. Maybe they just want bearded guys. Just in case, stop shaving now.
