Why would it be? The whole opposable thumb thing makes 5 pistons impractical, so 4+1 is the present solution. But until we develop opposable index fingers, there's no point in a 3+1 configuration.
Is there an advantage to mixing rotors and pistons that I am missing? Or were you just musing?
